The North Manchester Public Library is heading back in time with their Life in the Past Lane Summer Reading Program! The program will begin Monday, June 3rd and will end Friday, July 27th. Patrons are invited to explore the decades with fun events that delve into the fads, fashion, and funky dance moves of eras gone by. Readers of all ages can participate in one of the library's three age-based reading programs for kids, teens, and adults through the library's free reading app, Beanstack - all while winning some fabulous prizes! To sign up for summer reading, download the FREE Beanstack app, and create a profile. On June 3rd, patrons can register for the program on the app from their smart devices.
Younger readers participating in the Children’s Program will win fun section prizes for hours they’ve spent reading, as well as earning Grand Prize tickets to apply towards winning one of two grand prize packages: including a Nintendo Switch™ and a camping bundle. Additionally, the first 100 kids to complete the program will also receive invites to a Summer Reading Splash at the Strauss Peabody Aquatic Center, where the library has booked the therapy pool with slide, the lap pool, and the outdoor splash pad for children to enjoy. There are lots of fun things to incentivize adult and teen readers as well, from prizes earned for hours read (like gift cards to local gas stations and shops), to four different grand prize packs, including a Telescope and Spa Night package. “Our Summer Reading participation has grown each year and we hope to hit new records this year!” said Sarah Morbitzer, Children’s Department Manager. “Last year our patrons logged over a million minutes of reading and we hope to hit that milestone again. It’s so exciting to see reading minutes accumulate and we love incentivizing people to read with special prizes along the way.” In addition to the reading program and daily programming, the library will be hosting multiple special summer events. “We invite the entire community to join us as we step back in time and get lost in the pages of nostalgia with fun programming events!” said Molly Magnus, Programming Coordinator. “We’re really looking forward to new events like our Foamzilla Party and 80s Arcade event, but old favorites will return as well, like our Little Bookshop on Market Street event!” All community members are invited to participate - no library card or summer reading participation is necessary! “I am so excited to experience my first summer reading program since becoming the director!” said NMPL Director, Andrea Zwiebel. “I know it sounds like fun and games, but summer reading programs at public libraries play an important role in education. The National Summer Learning Association encourages summer reading programs to keep students engaged with high quality learning experiences. Additionally, the library supports local businesses by partnering for the summer reading program. Our prizes include gift cards to your favorite local shops, custom tumblers engraved in downtown North Manchester, and snacks from our grocery stores. We love keeping it local!” LIFE IN THE PAST LANE EVENT LINE UP Monday, June 3rd at 9am: Life In the Past Lane: NMPL 2024 Summer Reading Program Begins!
