CALLING ALL PATRONS: WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!
Thank you for your feedback and for your support of NMPL!
Happy National Library Week! This week, we celebrate libraries and all the ways the libraries serve their communities. The theme for 2024 is Ready, Set, Library!
National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature and Newbery and Pura Belpré-award winning author Meg Medina and 2024 National Library Week Honorary Chair shares, “I’m thrilled to serve as the honorary chair of National Library Week for 2024! Libraries connect our communities and enrich our lives in ways we may not realize, and one of my greatest pleasures is discovering the unexpected and beautiful things libraries offer. From book groups to lending sports equipment to providing a safe after-school hangout space and so much more, libraries support us wherever we find ourselves on the roadmap through life’s journey. Join me and the American Library Association in celebrating the gift of libraries everywhere and the adventures and opportunities they unlock for us every day." HOW CAN YOU CELEBRATE? 1. Visit the library. National Library Week is the perfect time to visit NMPL! Bring the kids or invite your friends. Meet the librarians. Check out books or other great items in your library's collection or attend a program. Take time to learn your library's story during National Library Week to see all it has to offer! 2. Participate in NMPL's social media posts. We'll be posting all week long about our library, our services, and our staff. We'll have a fun giveaway, special features, and action points. Be sure to follow us on Instagram and Facebook! Begin by telling us which type of reader from post YOU are in the comments. Ready, Set, Library! Ready, Set, Library! Calling all kid entrepreneurs! 240 patrons showed up to the North Manchester Public Library's St. Paddy's Golden Egg Hunt!
Kids ages 9 and up searched every square inch of the adult department, from looking behind books, to checking under cushions, to peering under furniture. Younger kids, ages 4 to 8, loved searching the children’s department, while babies and toddlers had a blast in the Chipper Chicks zone, where several soft toys, cushions, and pillows had been placed around the room with all the eggs. "I had a lot of great feedback from parents," said Sarah Morbitzer, Children's Department Manager. "One new family just moved here from Wisconsin and they absolutely loved the hunt and are excited to start attending Storytime!" "Within 20 minutes, almost all of the eggs were found, though we’re sure a few more will turn up over the next few weeks," said Jeanna Hann, Adult Department Manager "Three of the golden eggs never did get located, so keep an eye out the next time you’re at the library!" “The Wabash Carnegie Public Library is a gem and we will miss their in-person services,” said Andrea Zwiebel, North Manchester Public Library Director. “During this brief closure, Wabash County is fortunate to have two libraries with reciprocal agreements in Roann and North Manchester. That means you can visit either of us for FREE if you already have a library card from Wabash.”
“We love the idea of working together as much as possible to expand services to our County and patrons," said Joy Harber, Library Director of Roann. "Our goal and mission continues to make libraries a meaningful and valuable asset that rises to meet the ever-changing needs of our communities. We look forward to new and exciting ways to accomplish this now, and in the future." "We believe library borrowing cards to be a valuable tool to increase access to information and life-long learning for patrons," said Ware Wimberly, WCPL Library Director. "For residents who have to pay a non-resident card, this provides greater library access living in the unserved public library area." Patrons (resident or non-resident) interested in becoming reciprocal patrons only need to bring their home library card to the other library along with a valid ID or proof of address. The only restrictions for reciprocal patrons are that reciprocal patrons cannot borrow Inter-Library Loan titles or check out hotspots. For more information, visit our How To Get a Library Card page. So what are you waiting for? Become a Reciprocal Patron today! You know them... you love them... and now you can order them online!

Are you a crafter who is running out of reasons to craft? Do you make incredible knitted creations, but have nothing to do with them? Do you paint gorgeous works of art but have no space left on your walls? If so, we just might have the perfect solution for you… donate to NMPL's Santa's Workshop event!
Santa's Workshop takes place once a year in November, and allows kids from the community to "purchase" gifts from NMPL for their loved ones. This is an AMAZING program for multiple reasons, but the main one is that EVERY CHILD, no matter what financial insecurity they may be facing, is able to "buy" gifts for the people they love. This means so much to these kids. Without this workshop, some children would have no other way of buying gifts. Typically, NMPL staff members work all year long to create crafts, toys, and ornaments for the event, but we want to open it up to our amazing community. This is the perfect opportunity to craft your heart out AND have an outlet for all your creations. Donations should be clean, neat, and from a pet-free/smoke free environment in order to be allergy friendly. All donations can be brought to the front desk. Thank you for making a difference!
