The North Manchester Public Library is pleased to announce that Wolf Park, Science Central, Wabash County Museum, Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory, and Fort Wayne Museum of Art passes are now available for checkout with a library card Andrea Zwiebel, Director, shared, “We look forward to hearing about the doors that will open to our patrons as they explore local history, the arts, nature, science, and wildlife conservation! As a public library, we are dedicated to lifelong learning and always looking for ways to make educational opportunities accessible to our community.”
“With these partnerships, admission and gift shop discounts are available to our patrons at no charge,” said Molly Magnus, Program Coordinator. “The passes work for individuals or two adults with children or grandchildren. We know these kinds of outings can start to financially add up, so we’re happy to bridge the gap and buy these passes so our library users can take advantage of these amazing places.” “There are many, many benefits to having a library card,” commented Jeanna Hann, Adult Department Manager. “Your NMPL library card isn’t just a doorway to books, movies, magazines, newspapers, genealogy services, language classes, and streaming services. Now it’s also a ticket to museums, conservation sites, and an interactive science center!” “I’m very excited!” said Sarah Morbitzer, Children’s Department Manager. “Individuals and families in our community will be able to enjoy five different cultural and educational experiences, all within a reasonable driving distance. Whether it’s a 20 minute drive to the Wabash CountyMuseum or a 75 minute trip to Wolf Park this is a great opportunity to explore what our corner of Indiana has to offer!” The North Manchester Public Library is open 9am - 8pm Monday through Thursday and 9am - 5pm Friday and Saturday. Anyone wishing to apply for a library card is invited to call or visit the library for more information. For more information on the Annual Passes, please click HERE. Just download the FREE apps and log in with your library card to get access to thousands of books, movies, children's material, and more! Happy Holidays, North Manchester! We had the most magical and festive Saturday with you all at our Santa's Workshop event! Not only did 347 shoppers show up, but we raised $249 dollars for the Friends of the Library! Considering the purpose of this event is to allow kids to be able to shop for free for their families, being able to raise a little money any way is SUCH an awesome and unexpected thing. If you were one of the adult shoppers that spent actual cash, thank you! Your support helps us to keep this program rolling!
So how did it all go? Well, we sold almost 3/4 of our stock in the first hour! Kids were able to buy incredible handmade goods, toys, decorations, and ornaments with free NMPL bucks they received at the door. They agonized over purchases, added and re-added their items, planned, budgeted, and basically shopped their hearts out! Elsewhere throughout the library, all sorts of holiday fun was happening! The annual scavenger hunt was a big hit, as was the Book Nook giveaway, and our 4 crafting stations. A team of volunteers were kept busy in the wrapping station, ensuring all the kids had beautiful gifts to give their loved ones. The community puzzle table was a good place to relax, and our photo nook was The Spot for families to snag that perfect holiday photo. It was an AMAZING event and we're so grateful to the volunteer crafters who have been working all year making items for this event. These items were the first ones gone and they got RAVE reviews from the shoppers. Santa's Workshop is an AMAZING program for multiple reasons, but the main one is that EVERY CHILD, no matter what financial insecurity they may be facing, is able to "buy" gifts for the people they love. This is only possible because of you, our Community Crafters. Thank you for dedicating your time, materials, and talents towards making this event a success. It means more than you can EVER know. P.S. Want to Donate to Santa's Workshop? This is the perfect opportunity to craft your heart out AND have an outlet for all your creations. Donations should be clean, neat, and from smoke free environment and kept away from pets/pet hair in order to be allergy friendly. All donations can be brought to the front desk. This is an annual event, so we accept donations constantly, every year, all year long! Need some ideas? Knitted goods, paintings, wood working, cross-stitch or embroidery pieces, scarves, hats, blankets, crocheted animals, resin or polymer clay pieces, homemade home décor, we'll happily take it! Photos by Jeanna Beginning in 2025, the North Manchester Public Library Board of Trustee Meetings will be held on the third Tuesday of each month at 12pm. Special meetings and public hearings may be held at other times. All meeting dates are posted at the library and on the library website.
Except for executive sessions, all board meetings are open to the public. Meeting minutes will be posted to the library’s website once approved by the board. It was the perfect fall night at yesterday's Retro Halloween Party! 493 friends showed up to eat delicious food from Tacos Los Gordos, enter our costume contest (how are we ever going to choose the winners!?), go on horse rides, explore North Manchester with wagon rides ("Best wagon ride EVER!"), get their face painted, play ghostly games, make crafts, navigate the spider web obstacle course, spin the wheel of fate, and have fun with friends.
We had such a great time with you all, so thank you for coming out and celebrating our favorite spooky month with us! The North Manchester Public Library’s 3rd Annual Night Market was its most successful market yet, with 613 people attending the event!
“We love the Night Market because it’s such a great kick off to the fall season,” said Sarah Morbitzer, NMPL Children’s Department Manager. “It has the vibes of a block party, but then we mix in glow-in-the-dark activities and some AMAZING shopping at our vendor stands, and you have the makings of a truly awesome autumn night!” Attendees enjoyed shopping local businesses like Nordmann's Nook, The Beverage Buggy, Farm Girl with Curlz, and Chillz, as well as some local artisans and kid entrepreneurs. Activities included a scavenger hunt (the big hit of the night!), a DIY glow-in-the-dark jewelry bar, bouncy houses, and LED yard games like volleyball, corn hole, and badminton. Participants also got to add their own touches to a community canvas and add a glow-in-the-dark flair to their appearance at face painting stations. Additionally, the NMPL Friends of the Library group held a raffle and sold Night Market merch. The North Manchester Fire Department also donated their time and a fire truck for the event, to allow for a special Touch-A-Truck feature. “Part of our mission statement as a library is to meet the recreational and educational needs of the community,” said Molly Magnus, Programming Coordinator. “The Night Market allows us to do that while supporting our local businesses at the same time. We couldn’t run our Summer Reading program without our business sponsors, and we love to encourage everyone to shop local.” The event also serves as a partial fundraiser for the Friends of the Library group. This money helps fund library programming and events all year long. “We’d like to thank all the vendors for participating and all the volunteers who helped us make this possible,” said Andrea Zwiebel, Library Director. “This town always shows up for its library, and we’re so grateful.” “I think the comment I heard the most from attendees during the Night Market was ‘When is this event coming back!?’” said Jeanna Hann, Adult Department Manager and Marketing Coordinator. “We weren’t even halfway through the night and already people were excited for next year! We love that the North Manchester community has so much enthusiasm for these programs - and we’re going to make next year even better!” Photos by Jeanna Hann & Emily Dotson The North Manchester Public Library is heading back in time with their Life in the Past Lane Summer Reading Program! The program will begin Monday, June 3rd and will end Friday, July 27th. Patrons are invited to explore the decades with fun events that delve into the fads, fashion, and funky dance moves of eras gone by. Readers of all ages can participate in one of the library's three age-based reading programs for kids, teens, and adults through the library's free reading app, Beanstack - all while winning some fabulous prizes! To sign up for summer reading, download the FREE Beanstack app, and create a profile. On June 3rd, patrons can register for the program on the app from their smart devices.
Younger readers participating in the Children’s Program will win fun section prizes for hours they’ve spent reading, as well as earning Grand Prize tickets to apply towards winning one of two grand prize packages: including a Nintendo Switch™ and a camping bundle. Additionally, the first 100 kids to complete the program will also receive invites to a Summer Reading Splash at the Strauss Peabody Aquatic Center, where the library has booked the therapy pool with slide, the lap pool, and the outdoor splash pad for children to enjoy. There are lots of fun things to incentivize adult and teen readers as well, from prizes earned for hours read (like gift cards to local gas stations and shops), to four different grand prize packs, including a Telescope and Spa Night package. “Our Summer Reading participation has grown each year and we hope to hit new records this year!” said Sarah Morbitzer, Children’s Department Manager. “Last year our patrons logged over a million minutes of reading and we hope to hit that milestone again. It’s so exciting to see reading minutes accumulate and we love incentivizing people to read with special prizes along the way.” In addition to the reading program and daily programming, the library will be hosting multiple special summer events. “We invite the entire community to join us as we step back in time and get lost in the pages of nostalgia with fun programming events!” said Molly Magnus, Programming Coordinator. “We’re really looking forward to new events like our Foamzilla Party and 80s Arcade event, but old favorites will return as well, like our Little Bookshop on Market Street event!” All community members are invited to participate - no library card or summer reading participation is necessary! “I am so excited to experience my first summer reading program since becoming the director!” said NMPL Director, Andrea Zwiebel. “I know it sounds like fun and games, but summer reading programs at public libraries play an important role in education. The National Summer Learning Association encourages summer reading programs to keep students engaged with high quality learning experiences. Additionally, the library supports local businesses by partnering for the summer reading program. Our prizes include gift cards to your favorite local shops, custom tumblers engraved in downtown North Manchester, and snacks from our grocery stores.
