Books are for EVERYONE! The American Printing House for the Blind reported 63,357 students in 2017 who met the definition of being legally blind. Many other children cope with varying degrees of visual impairment. Can reading a book be an enjoyable experience for someone who struggles to see? Absolutely!
Our Juvenile Vision collection (housed behind the Children's Circulation Desk*) contains books that are perfect for young readers who are blind or visually impaired.
While geared towards readers with visual impairments, we highly encourage everyone to check out books from this collection. They have high visual as well as tactile interest, are brilliantly executed, and will encourage news ways of looking at the world! *New titles are currently on display on the New Book Shelf in the Children's picture book room.
