All ages are welcome to attend today's Animal Ear Headbands crafting session at 4pm! You'll learn how to make your own animal ear headbands perfect for Halloween costumes or every day imaginary play!
Clouds, pipes, bowler hats, and green apples: these remain some of the most immediately recognizable icons of René Magritte, the Belgian painter, and well-known Surrealist.
In this session of Homeschool Art, children will learn about the artist and his use of everyday items to create surrealist art. The session will begin with a short presentation in the Blocher Community Room and will be followed by an activity inspired by Magritte’s work. Wearing clothes that can get messy is always a good idea!
Registration is required for every child planning to attend. Space is limited. Participants are encouraged to bring a folder to keep any coloring pages or fact sheets they are given during the class. Masks are required for all indoor programs. November class registration will open on October 4th.
Elementary aged kids enjoy an hour of stories, games, crafts and snacks tonight at 6pm for Evening Tales! Today we'll learn to make Candy Corn Jars - perfect for decorating your room or holding all your candy.
Today's the day! NMPL’s biggest party of the year is back! We're so excited about this years' Spooky Silly Halloween Party. In order to keep everyone safe, NMPL has moved the party outdoors where families can enjoy wagon rides, a spooky egg hunt, party games, and more! Don’t forget about our annual costume contest where trophies will be awarded for the best costumes in multiple categories (Winners will be announced the following day.)
Costume categories are as follows:
Spookiest, Silliest, Best Duo, Best Baby, Best Group, and Best in Show.
We're also thrilled to announce that for the first time ever there will be a food stand at our Halloween Party! Tacos Los Gordos will be selling a great menu of tacos and quesadillas. Stop by for some of the best Mexican food in town from 5pm to 7pm or until they sell out! We hope you'll join us for a fabulous good time!

Knowing when to plant and how to plant is just as important as deciding what to plant! Join us for a fabulous program on site at the Library’s pollinator garden (in case of inclement weather, we'll be in the Blocher Community Room!). Geoff Schortgen of the local Purdue Extension office and members of the Pollinator Committee will give a verbal and visual presentation today at 5:30pm on planting serviceberry and viburnum bushes and take questions from attendees about their own landscaping plans!
Orienteering Club is today at 4pm! We'll be using compasses and coordinates to find hidden treasure caches! The program will take place either outside (weather permitting) or inside (masks are required at all indoor programming).
Alma Thomas was an important role model for women, African-American artists, and older artists alike (she was recognized for her paintings after her retirement from teaching). She was also the first African-American woman to have a solo exhibition of her work at New York’s Whitney Museum of American Art.
