HAPPY GIVING TUESDAY!⠀ We want to thank everyone who has done so much for the library this past year - from donating your time, to donating craft supplies, we truly couldn't do what we do without you. As always, after a busy year of programming, this time of year finds us a little light on supplies, so this Giving Tuesday we're asking our wonderful community to consider purchasing items for NMPL from our Amazon Wish List! We're asking for a variety of craft supplies for our programs, some items to refill our popular Sensory kits, and more balls for the Ball Pit in the playroom. EVERY little bit helps! The North Manchester Public Library announces the installation of an Indiana Legal Help Kiosk at the library. Indiana Legal Help kiosks provide a way for Hoosiers to easily access IndianaLegalHelp.org, an Indiana Bar Foundation program connecting Hoosiers to legal resources and services. The Indiana Legal Help website, which has seen over one million visits since its launch, includes legal forms, instructional videos, referrals to free and low-cost legal services, and a statewide calendar of free legal advice clinics.
The Indiana Legal Help kiosks will initially focus on serving Hoosiers facing eviction or housing instability and will expand to include other legal topics later next year. The ADA accessible kiosk has a printer and scanner. “We are excited to be able to partner with the Indiana Bar Foundation to host this kiosk,” says Diane Randall, North Manchester Public Library Director. “We are always looking for ways to work collaboratively with communities, courts, and other partners to provide quality resources for our patrons.” The Indiana Legal Help Kiosk is part of an initiative to place 120 kiosks in communities around the state. This opportunity is the result of a partnership between the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority and the Indiana Bar Foundation to increase housing stability legal services using federal funds made available through the Emergency Rental Assistance 2 Program (ERA2). “We are grateful to the organizations around the state that are partnering with us to make this valuable resource available in their community. Through IndianaLegalHelp.org and a network of statewide partners engaged in assisting Hoosiers facing housing-related civil legal issues, the Foundation is uniquely positioned to expand services statewide and connect more Hoosiers with legal services,” said Foundation President & CEO Charles Dunlap. The Indiana Legal Help Kiosk will be available to the public Monday-Thursday, from 9:30am to 7:30pm and Friday-Saturdays from 9:30am to 4:30pm. For housing and other legal needs, you can always check out the legal resources available at IndianaLegalHelp.org. The North Manchester Public Library is thrilled to invite you to Santa’s Workshop - the ultimate, kid-friendly shopping experience! The event will take place today (Saturday, November 19th) from 1pm to 4pm and is free to attend with no library card required.
“The main event is definitely our festive shopping experience,” says Molly Magnus, Programming Coordinator. “Each child who attends will receive 10 NMPL bucks to spend on gifts for family and friends. Kids at heart can shop too, with NMPL bucks available for purchase at the door.” Items for purchase include handmade ornaments, hair accessories, knitted hats, handmade dishcloths and hot pads, home decor items, NMPL merch, and fun stocking stuffers. The library will also provide free gift wrapping, with volunteers who will make sure all the gifts are looking beautiful. “I NEVER miss a Santa’s Workshop event,” says Analiegh McKee, age 10. “Last year I found everything for EVERYONE on my Christmas list.” In addition to the shopping event, the library will also have Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa Crafts, a Christmas Camper Selfie Station, a Scavenger Hunt, a Design Your Own Wrapping Paper Station, holiday games and more! Santa will also be stopping by the library from 1:30pm to 3:30pm to visit and chat with all his fans. "We truly love hosting this event each year!” says Sarah Morbitzer, Children’s Department Manager. “Children are able to fully participate in the gift giving season using NMPL bucks given to them at the door and earned at the library throughout the year. They get so excited to find gifts for the people they love! It's also a great learning tool as they have to plan their spending to cover the people on their lists. And of course, adults can always buy more bucks at the door (for themselves or their kids) which helps to support Friends of the Library and keep all our amazing library programming going all year long!" Teen Makers is today at 3:45pm in the Makerspace - see you soon!
