Large print titles are a fantastic resource for kids who are struggling to read but don't want to be seen with "little kid books." Larger font size and more white space make it easier to detect and decode individual words. Look for the books with green tape along the top of the spine! If you're anything like us, you're a huge fan of our e-libraries, Hoopla and Libby! Unfortunately, due to Covid, we are adjusting our library budget, and as such, have made the decision to only use one e-library going forward. Sadly, we will be parting ways with Hoopla for the time being... it was a fantastic app that we LOVED, and we're sad to see it go! However, we are SO excited to encourage all patrons to embrace Libby, our FANTASTIC free e-library by Overdrive!
Borrow ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines for FREE to read on your phone or tablet using the Libby app by OverDrive. Simply download the app, and follow the steps to create an account with your library card number. NMPL users can check out 10 books at a time, and all borrows will automatically return at the end of the lending period - saving YOU the trouble of remembering due dates! Books and audiobooks can also be placed on hold, and users will be notified when their book is ready for downloading! Getting Started & Information Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Why did you get rid of Hoopla? A. Sadly, due to Covid, we had to make some budget decisions, and decided to only use one e-library instead of two. As of October 31st, Hoopla will no longer be a service that NMPL offers. Q. Why did you choose Libby over Hoopla? A. Libby allows 10 borrows at a time, instead of the 4 borrows per month that Hoopla allowed. If you checked out a book from Hoopla, finished it, and returned it, that borrow would still be used up until a new month began. With Libby, once you return an item, you get that borrow space back - allowing you to check out as many books a month as you want, as long as you are returning items! Q. Hoopla had movies and TV shows... does Libby offer those types of items? A. Sadly, it does not. We encourage you to check out DVDs from our own collection! Q. I'm an Overdrive app user. Do I need to switch to Libby? A. Libby and Overdrive both access the EXACT same collection. The only difference is the Libby app is MUCH more user friendly. If you are happy with the Overdrive app, there's no reason to switch! If you struggle with Overdrive, you'll find the switch to Libby much more beneficial. Q. What do I need to access Libby? A. Just a valid library card! New users should allow at least a week before accessing Libby, so that we can get new accounts added to our system. Q. How do I get started with Libby? A. Simply grab your library card and click THIS LINK for a step by step guide - we promise you, it's EASY! The app walks you through each step and provides helpful instructions along the way! Q. The item I want is on Libby, but the app says it's not available. What do I do? A. Much like a physical library, Libby does not allow concurrent downloads - so if someone else has the item checked out, it's not available for another user at the time. But no worries! You can simply place a hold and Libby will notify you when the item is available! Have additional questions? See a clerk at the front desk! Looking for that finishing touch to your autumn décor? Look no further! Join us for our Watercolor Tutorial: Autumn Tree program tonight at 7pm on the NMPL Facebook page. All the kits have been taken, but you can still participate by grabbing some watercolors and watching the video!
