We are SO excited about our American Sign Language for Kids class today at 2:30pm! American Sign Language is a natural language that serves as the predominant language of deaf communities in the United States. ASL is a complete and organized visual language that is utilized through facial expression as well as movements and motions with the hands and body.
This 2 part class covers the basics of American Sign Language which consists of the alphabet, common greetings, introductions, and a game!
This class will be taught by Elliot Sklar. He is a recent graduate from Goshen College with a bachelors in American Sign Language and Secondary Education. Throughout his 4 years at Goshen he has learned and taught ASL as well as taken a semester at Gallaudet University in Washington D.C. to better that education. Elliot is excited to teach you all more about American Sign Language as much as you are excited to learn it!

We'll have all your favorite lawn games and we’ll have tables set up with some awesome board and card games as well (feel free to bring your own favorite game and challenge us to a match)! What better way to get back in the mood for school than exercising your body and your brain?
HIP-HIP-HOORAY! The three different weather forecasts we have been checking non-stop show that the rain is clearing up by 10am, and it will be overcast but clear all afternoon. THE SHOW WILL GO ON! Please join us for our Summer Reading Party today (July 27th) from 1pm-3pm on the library lawn! It will be a pleasant, overcast day, so everyone will be able to enjoy the outdoors without getting too overheated.
We'll have an inflatable obstacle course, a dunk tank, slip n’ slide, balloon stomping races, kiddie pools, a superhero station, sprinklers, yard games, flat playground games, and more! We'll also have a designated "Baby/Toddler Area" so little ones can enjoy all the fun in a safe and calm location!
And even better? EVERYONE IS INVITED. Didn't participate in summer reading? GREAT! We'll see you at the party! Didn't actually finish the program? We don't care! Be sure to bring a friend with you! Don't have a library card? No worries! Come on down! Don't live in town? We love visitors!
Please help us spread the word that the party is still on - we don't want the overcast skies to keep anyone away - and tag a friend in this post!

"In addition to fines being ineffectual at preventing late returns, as a financially punitive action, fines go against our morals as a public library," said Circulation Librarian, Cody Coble.
Addressing concerns about items not being returned, Jeanna Hann, Adult Department Manager said that, "Research and lots of recent experience from libraries that have gone fine-free shows that overdue fines do not affect how fast people bring back books; return rates are THE SAME before and after libraries go fine-free. And some libraries get MORE materials back after going fine-free."
Those with existing late fines on their account will have their accounts cleared.
“Through eliminating fines, the library is striving to improve equity of access by removing financial barriers to library and information services for the community. Fines are often a roadblock to those in the community who can most greatly benefit from the library’s resources and services,” says Diane Randall, Library Director.
