Ice Cream. Books. We love them both. Why not pair them together?! And perhaps - dare we suggest it - enjoy these new reads with a bowl full of our favorite ice cream?

It's National Library Week and we're celebrating virtually! Yesterday was #shelfiesunday and today is #mindfulmonday! How are you relaxing today? Are you cooking? Sitting in the sunshine? Going on a walk? Take a pic and tag us! We’re also going to go out on a limb and state that we think hot drinks are a CRUCIAL part of the mindfulness process - so we challenge you to post your #mindfulmondaymug as well! We (like everyone else right now) are really into puzzles and sassy coffee mugs that speak universal truths. What’s your #mindfulmondaymug or #mindfulmonday activity? We have a full day of programming scheduled! First up, hop into Spring with a funny origami frog! Join us on Facebook at 10am to learn how to fold your own - all you need is origami paper or any paper cut into a square. Did you know the tower took 200 years to build? We read an article about the Getty Museum in LA challenging art fans to post photos of themselves recreating their favorite works of art with stuff they could find at home. The results were predictably HILARIOUS, and we were so inspired we decided to do the same thing - only with book covers! That's right, we challenge you to re-create your favorite book cover with your family, or random items you find around the house. Share them with us in the comments below or by using the hashtag #NMPLundercover. We can't WAIT to see what you come up with!
Here are some of our staff and patron's re-created book covers, including a few from other libraries who accepted the challenge! Stay tuned, we have more to come! (Need more inspiration? Check out the Getty article!) What better way to spend a snow day than baking? And what better thing to bake than... chocolate cake! Today's Cook a Book program will be today at 11am on Facebook and will feature one of Chloe Coscarelli's incredible vegan desserts (her cookbooks are always a popular checkout at the library and for good reason!). Can't make it? Check out our Online Programming Archive page later on to watch it!
In a Book Funk? Finished a your latest book and looking for something new? Have you downloaded Hoopla and Overdrive, but are a little overwhelmed by choice? We're here to help! Choose your morning drink, and then check out the recommended book on either of our two free e-libraries!
UPDATE: We will be postponing our Draw, Paint & Learn the Leaning Tower of Pisa program until Monday at 1pm on Facebook. We apologize for any inconvenience! Have you ever read the books Swiss Family Robinson or Robinson Crusoe? Watched the Gilligan's Island TV show? What do they have in common? Shipwreck on a desert island! These exciting stories have thrilled readers and watchers for years. Now it's time to re-create them - in LEGOs! Build a deserted island complete with all the things YOU think you would need to survive. Think food and water sources, shelter, maybe a library ;-) Take a picture of your creation and send it to us to post on the Library's social media pages. Happy building! Storytime will be today at 11am on Facebook live! For those who aren't able to tune in, head over to our Online Program Archives page!
