Picture
Due to increases of positive Covid cases in the county and per the NMPL Service Strategies for County Pandemic/Epidemic Ratings Metrics, the North Manchester Public Library will be cancelling all in-person programs for the month of February. The safety of our staff and patrons is our number one priority, and we will continue to closely monitor the situation, as well as stay in touch with local health officials. In the meantime, we have a dynamic line up of exciting online programming events, from crafting programs, to Storytimes, to cooking demonstrations! We’re so excited for some of these virtual programs, and we can’t wait to spend time with you online! We are hopeful that we can resume in-person programming in March, as long as the numbers improve. Updates will be posted on the NMPL social media pages and website.
The meeting rooms, Blocher Community Room, Makerspace and Playroom will be temporarily closed as well. They will re-open as soon as the positivity count for Wabash County drops beneath 25%.

We encourage all patrons to take advantage of our fantastic Curbside Services and enjoy a fast, convenient way to get your books, kits, movies and more! To place a curbside order, click HERE.

NMPL also offers Libby, a free e-library for all patrons to access with their library card! Click HERE to get started borrowing.

NMPL thanks the North Manchester community for all their support, and we look forward to continuing to serve you through a wealth of e-resources and online virtual programs.

NMPL Receives Pilcrow Foundation Grant, Made Possible Through Tammy Seifert Memorial Fund

1/20/2022

The North Manchester Public Library was recently chosen as a recipient of the Children’s Book Project grant award from The Pilcrow Foundation.  The Pilcrow Foundation provides new, quality, hardcover children’s books to rural public libraries across the United States.

Because of this grant, NMPL added 75 new books worth $1,257.78 to the Children’s Department collection this month.

“We recognize the importance of public libraries in rural communities.  Libraries are often the center of the community, where people come together to learn and share ideas.  Providing quality children’s books to rural public libraries ensures an opportunity for active engagement within the community and lifelong learning.” The Pilcrow Foundation
One of the stipulations of the grant was that the home community contribute towards the grant.  “When I found this opportunity, I immediately thought of the Tammy Seifert Memorial Fund that had been set up in 2020 to benefit the library,” shares Sarah Morbitzer, Children Department Head.

“$200 from her fund covered the community contribution and made us eligible for the award.  On their end, Pilcrow generously promised to provide us with an additional $400 of books.  This was only possible because of the altruism of Tammy’s family and friends.  When they presented the memorial fund to the library, they talked about books as one of the goals for the fund.  Last year, we were able to purchase all the Young Hoosier nominees we didn’t already own through her fund.”

“With Pilcrow, we were able to select the exact books we needed for the department, completing several series and ordering new releases from popular authors.  Imagine my surprise when I opened the shipment and found 38 extra books!”

Pilcrow donors Drs. Bill Strawbride and Meg Wallhagen, Mr. & Mrs. Hal Berenson, Laura Ackerman, and Shout Mouse Press provided the additional health & wellness, math & science, and young author books for the library.

“It’s amazing really,” said Morbitzer.  “We were able to invest $200 of Tammy Seifert’s memorial fund and it came back to us with an additional $1000 worth of books.  We have board books, picture books, early readers, chapter books, and nonfiction.  I can’t say enough about how much I appreciate Tammy’s memorial fund and everyone at The Pilcrow Foundation.  It’s been a really special way to honor Tammy’s life and legacy.  She was known for helping out children through the High 5 Sports business.  Now she’s helping out countless young readers in our community.”

Library director Diane Randall expressed, “NMPL is so grateful for the generosity of the friends and family of Tammy Seifer for providing the memorial funding in her honor, and to the Pilcrow Foundation for providing this grant opportunity to libraries.”

The books are available for checkout from the library and can be found on a special display set up across from the children’s circulation desk.  Each book has a bookplate acknowledging Tammy’s memory and the generosity of her friends and family and the Pilcrow Foundation.
