IMPORANT TAX FORMS UPDATE!
First, NMPL wants to make sure all patrons are aware that the Internal Revenue Service has announced that the nation's tax season will start on Friday, February 12, 2021, when the tax agency will begin accepting and processing 2020 tax year returns. (Source: irs.gov) Secondly, we know many patrons are used to getting their tax forms here at the library. The Indiana Department of Revenue has informed all libraries that, starting with this tax season, they will no longer provide state income tax forms or state booklets for libraries to distribute to their patrons. "DOR is encouraging all customers to file electronically to reduce errors and speed up the processing time for returns. Over 2 million Hoosiers may qualify to file their federal and state taxes electronically for free with the Indiana Free File program which can be accessed online at freefile.dor.in.gov. Hoosiers can also access Indiana tax forms online at https://www.in.gov/dor/tax-forms/" We have ordered Federal Tax Forms and we will make them available on a first come, first serve basis. Unfortunately, we have no timeline as to when the tax forms might arrive. We will be sure to post on our website and social media when they come in! We encourage all patrons to check out the Pathfinder VITA tax prep service, which is free to those who qualify. NMPL will be hosting the Pathfinder VITA tax service here at the library, every Friday, beginning in February. We also encourage you to check out of the many tax prep services in town. If you have your own printer, you can print forms from THIS LINK. If you need tax forms printed, you can utilize the NMPL Curbside Document Services. Please visit our Document Services page for more information. PLEASE NOTE: PATRONS USING THIS SERVICE FOR TAX FORMS MUST PROVIDE US WITH A COMPLETE LIST OF THE TAX FORMS THEY NEED PRINTED. The list MUST be specific and include EVERY FORM you want printed. If you have any questions about your 2020 taxes, please seek the guidance of a tax professional. Thank you so much!
