Introducing...Miss Peabody

  I am Miss Peabody,
     the library cat,
     and this is my story:

I used to live here at the North Manchester Public Library. Let me tell you about the day I arrived. It was a chilly morning in September 1998, and I was cold and hungry. Although it is hard to believe now, I was quite thin at the time! I had been lost for several days and went for help. I arrived at the large glass doors of the library and meowed pitifully until they finally let me in and scrounged up food, milk and water.

Well, that was it. I liked the place and the people, so I stayed for the next 10 years. My job tasks included lounging on computer terminals to keep track of computer users, roaming the aisles looking for ne'er-do-wells, and providing surveillance services, especially in the men's restroom.  The Friends of the Library group adopted me and paid all my expenses, which, to tell you the truth, was only a pittance. Whatever a pittance is.

After many years of dedicated service (sigh...) I have decided to retire in July, 2008, and move into my vacation home in Rogers City, Michigan. I have had a wonderful time working at NMPL perfecting the art of napping, which is really harder than you think!  I plan on moving into the Forty Mile Point Lighthouse as the unofficial "Keeper's Assistant". Visit our website at www.40milepointlighthouse.org  I'm sure my duties there will be just as stimulating and rewarding as those here at the library.
