The Indiana Early Literacy Firefly Award is an initiative of the Indiana Center for the Book. Like the Young Hoosier and Eliot Rosewater book awards, the winning title is chosen by Indiana children - with one important difference. This award features picture books and ONLY children ages 0 - 5 are allowed to vote!
This is a very special way for parents, caregivers, and very young children to interact together with exceptional picture books. In addition, small children who participate will begin to understand the power their voice has as they cast their vote! V
isit this link to watch and vote for the five nominees: https://www.in.gov/library/5748.htm
Access the program guide (https://www.in.gov/library/files/FireflyProgramGuide2020.pdf) for enrichment activities that will bring the books alive and encourage Talking, Singing, Reading, Writing, and Playing. Happy voting!
For those of you who plan to follow along with Cook a Book: Cinnamon Star Bread, our Facebook Live demonstration on Friday, April 3 at 11 am:
On Wednesday (April 1) or Thursday (April 2) mix up the following recipe* from Holiday and Celebration Bread in Five Minutes a Day by Zoe Francois and Jeff Hertzberg, M.D.:
1 ¾ cup lukewarm water (100 degree F or below)
1 tablespoon granulated yeast
1 tablespoon salt
4 large eggs, lightly beaten
½ cup honey
1 stick unsalted butter, melted (can substitute ½ cup of canola, grapeseed, or coconut oil or melted margarine)
7 cups bread flour (can substitute all-purpose flour)
Mix water, yeast, salt, eggs, honey, and melted butter in a 6 quart lidded food container.

Following Governor Holcomb's announcement yesterday, and after much consideration, NMPL has decided to follow the lead of the state and postpone the St. Paddy's Golden Egg Hunt. We take the health and safety of our patrons very seriously, and we feel it would be the safest course of action to move the egg hunt to the summer. Mark your calendars for Saturday, June 13th at 10am for an AMAZING Summer Reading Themed Egg Hunt event!
We thank all our patrons for understanding and supporting NMPL. As of this time, NMPL has no plans to close or alter hours or services. We intend to continue the rest of our regularly scheduled in-house programming for the time being.
