Today marks the beginning of Banned Books Week!
Celebrate your freedom to read by checking out a Banned Book from the display at the front desk, and by reading these ridiculous reasons books have been challenged or banned. We'll be posting new challenged/banned books every day this week!
These new fiction and non-fiction books just came in and will be available on the new shelf soon! Interested in a specific title? Call the front desk to place a hold!
Next week is Banned Books Week! Banned Books Week brings together the entire book community — librarians, booksellers, publishers, journalists, teachers, and readers of all types — in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular. Celebrate YOUR freedom to read by stopping by the front desk and checking out a Banned or Challenged book from our display or pick up a Banned Books Bookmark to take home! The Friends of the North Manchester Public Library is raffling off two quilts: Cass Rish's hand-stitched 64 by 64 inch, queen-sized. "Jack in the Books" quilt and a 52 by 59 inch "One Fish, Two Fish," a Dr. Seuss-inspired quilt, created by an anonymous donor.
The raffle will begin on Wednesday, September 20th and end Saturday, November 4th. Raffle tickets for each quilt will cost $5.00 each or 5 for $20.00. They will be sold at the front circulation desk, and the winning tickets will be drawn at 5:00pm on Saturday, November 4th, following the Friends' Fall Book Sale at the library. The winners of the raffle do not need to be present at the drawing.
Money raised from ticket sales will help fund the programs, projects, and purchases that make the library such a vital center of community activity for all ages.
The mission of the North Manchester Public Library is to provide materials, programs, and services necessary to meet the recreational and educational needs of the community in a comfortable and easily-accessible facility, which is a community center of activity and information.
