Reciprocal Program

At the end of March, North Manchester Public Library and Roann Paw Paw Township Public Library will be joining forces in a reciprocal borrowing program. If you have a library card with Roann, you will be able to get an NMPL library card free of charge. You will need to show your Roann library card, ID, and will have to have your good standing with the Roann library verified. Reciprocal borrowers are not allowed to check out DVDs, but the rest of the collection is available for our regular 3 week checkout. We are happy to be providing more of Wabash County with library access.

Book Returns at the Desk

Clerks will be encouraging patrons to return their books in the book returns (or slots) built into the main desk. We are attempting to make this a habit for patrons so that books left on the circulation desk do not get confused with others that might be waiting to check out. Thank you for helping us with this endeavor!

Overdrive Checkout Limit Increased!

Previously, the Overdrive consortium NMPL belongs to had a checkout limit of 3 books. However, as our consortium adds more and more books, patrons have asked to be able to check out more items at a time. NMPL's Overdrive service now allows patrons to check out 6 books at a time. The amount of holds a patron can place has also doubled to 6 from the previous 3.

Free Student Cards for North Manchester School Students

NMPL has decided to make all student cards free in partnership with the North Manchester Reads initiative! Previously $10.00, now students enrolled in any preschool through high school in North Manchester Public Library's taxing district will be able to receive free cards. Students need to bring proof of enrollment to sign up for a card (e.g. a report card), and will need a parent's signature if they are under eighteen.

Manchester Reads Initiative

North Manchester Public Library is teaming up with Manchester Community Schools to further develop readers in our community. The initiative will focus on encouraging pleasure reading, with highest emphasis on those in grades 7-12. We hope as our community gets behind this initiative, students will see how important reading is to the adults around them. Share what you're reading now on our North Manchester Reads Facebook page, and look for more reading porgrams to come!

Non-Resident Fee Increase

Beginning today, February 14, 2014, the non-resident fee for a North Manchester Public Library card is $80.00. This fee is established by the Indiana State Library and is required for NMPL to stay in compliance with Indiana law.

OverDrive Browsing Computer Installed!

NMPL is happy to announce a computer–designated for browsing the online OverDrive catalog (i.e. e-books and audiobooks)–is now installed where the 15 minute computer used to be. This computer is intended to easily showcase our online OverDrive collection. Patrons can log in to their OverDrive accounts (using their library card numbers) and check out books through Overdrive. This computer does not offer connectivity to any mobile devices. If a patron checks out a book on this computer through Overdrive, they still must download it on their own wireless device. Come see our newest addition!

Heroes’ Tree Returns

A tree dedicated to remembering and thanking those who have or are currently serving in our nation's armed forces is located in the reference section of the library. As part of the national Our Heroes' Tree project, North Manchester Public Library encourages you to bring a picture (or copy of a picture) of a friend or loved one who has served or is serving in the armed forces. You may decorate the picture and create an ornament honoring your loved one which will be hung on the tree. We have erected the tree at this point in the year so it will be standing and decorated by Veteran's Day, November 11, 2013. If you have any questions, please contact Becky at 260-982-4773/
